What the 2028 cutoff means for your shelf

Nothing you own stops working. What changes is supply: after 2027 no new discs join the pool, so the ones in circulation matter more.

Sony's announcement is about new releases. Every PS5 disc you own keeps working on a console with a disc drive, and games that ship on disc before January 2028 keep their disc editions.

What changes is supply. From 2028 no new discs join the pool, so the copies already pressed become a fixed library. Rare and late releases are likely to hold their value best.

Three things worth doing now: list the games you have finished so they reach someone who wants them, add the 2027 releases you care about to your wants so a loop can find them, and grade honestly so trades stay smooth.

That is the whole idea behind DiscLoops: a disc that changes hands is a disc that stays in play.

In one line

Keep finished games moving instead of letting them gather dust.
